After being inspired by video game instruction booklets and pen-and-paper roleplaying games, I developed my storytelling skills in journalism, marketing, visual effects, and indie game development.
My debut indie video game Gloom and Doom was picked up by three publishers, and the horror-comedy is now available on all major gaming platforms. My teen rom-com Teenage Textbook: The Series (based on one of my favorite childhood books) was broadcast on Singapore’s most-viewed TV network.
My current project is a YA fiction novel adaptation of Gloom and Doom.
I live in Singapore with my wife and two kids, where I get most of my writing done while everyone’s asleep.
Neo Tegoel Games
I develop video games as Neo Tegoel Games (pronounced “nee-oh tee-gohl”) because I believe the immersive element of video games can help us sympathize with people and situations beyond our regular lives. My aim is to help every individual in the world feel less isolated through stories featuring inclusive scenarios and characters who represent society's underdogs.
Furthermore, as a father of two, I wanted to show my kids that it is possible to achieve any goal if you work hard and spend your time learning what you need to know. I made these games by watching YouTube tutorials while commuting to and from work!
#DidYouKnow: the four trees and the little bush in the logo represent my family and our dog (who has now crossed over the rainbow bridge). The name Neo Tegoel is a composite of my wife and kids’ middle names.
