Crazy Kawaii Cops!
One thing I try to do with my kids during the longer school holidays is to work on a video project together. We’ve done Beyblade videos, corny sci-fi action short films, and now, since they’re currently going through an anime phase, we’ve gone and done a parody of anime opening sequences!
To get this done, we watched a whole bunch of anime intros, and this summary video by Emily Luong was particularly helpful. Some things we identified we wanted to do were:
Staring into nothing shots
Spinning around shots
Running, lots of running (and in anime, it seems protagonists always run from right to left)
That bright white glasses meme
Anime graphics like overflowing tears
Action shots
Random quirky behavior
Over the course of a few days, we went and shot bits around our home, and when we had to go to IKEA to get some cabinets. I also randomly perused J-pop music on Spotify to find the right song, and I found one from a band called Sundae May Club (check out their new album on Spotify), and they’re fantastic!
At some point, I’ll probably write another post showing how some of the VFX were done, but in the meantime, enjoy our little video!
